Leőwey Táncegyüttes – Pécs – Hungary

The Leőwey dance group was founded in 1973 by the students of the German minority classes of the Klara Leőwey Gymnasium. The members are of Hungarian-German origin and this determines the profile of our ensemble. Our most important goal is to preserve the German folk dance, the folk songs, the folkway and the traditional costumes. We want to present a rich programme to our public, so in our repertoire there are also Hungarian folk dances.

The group is a permanent participant at folk dance festivals on a local level and around the world, as well as every other year at the Helikon Festival.

During the 40 years of existence, the folk dance group has become one of the renowned representatives of the Hungarian-German folklore.

As an acknowledgement of this result, the ensemble has been awarded the Gold level, the first place, and the “Quality Prize” several times.

At the country gathering of the folk dance groups in 1998 and 2004 it has been awarded with “Honours”.
